Sheikh Zakzaky Commemorates Martyrdom of Sayyidah Fatimah(SA)

The Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky expressed that the first days of the month of Jimada Thani are not moment joys and celebrations
as the first five days of the month are days for the commemoration of the martyrdom of Sayyidah Fatimah(SA). He called the attention of members against celebration in these days. He made the explanation on Monday the 23rd of April 2012 at Husainiyyah Baqiyyatullah during the weekly Lesson from the book of  Nahjul Balagha.

The sheikh further explained that there is variation regarding the martyrdom of the Sayyidah Fatimah(SA)which  arised from the olden ways of recording manuscripts  in which the texts didn’t contain paraphrases which  resulted in giving two meanings to  the texts of  the Report which says  the number of days between Sayyidah Fatimah(SAW) and her father when he departed the world is khams wa sab’een (75)or khams wa tis’een (95). The way these numbers are written in the old ways of writing  is the same, thus the variation.

The Sheikh emphasized that there should be no celebration in these days as they coincide with Sayyidah’s martyrdom. Birthday commemorations of Sayyidah Fatimah shall come after the passage of these first days of the month of Jimada Thani.
The Islamic Movement in Nigeria commemorates with Muslim Ummah especially the Followers of Ahlulbayt(AS) on the martyrdom anniversary of Sayyidah Fatimah (SA).

Speaking to the participants of the short course, the Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria delivered an inspiring speech on the concept of Wilayatil Faqih.  Speaking on the term wilayatil faqih Sheikh Zakzaky expressed that the terminology is made of two words- Wilayah and Faqih.
He described the literal meaning of a faqeehi which he said it means one who understand and grasps. He however added that its technical meaning can be defined to be a jurist -one who attained high degree of knowledge and can deduce religious rulings in matters and affairs of people.
He elaborated further that knowing rulings does not make a person a jurist except those who can deduce them.
With regard to the path of Ahlulbayt Sheikh Zakzaky explained that a faqeeh must be God fearing, devoid of materialism and his actions must be in conformity with Sharia. He must also be a person who does not incline to worldly things.
While speaking on Wilayah Sheikh Zakzaky described its meaning according the level of understanding of the participants where he said it means obedience to the leader. Thus in a nutshell wilayatil faqeeh meaning leadership of a jurist, he noted.
In another part of his speech he explained that the followers of Ahlulbayt(AS) don’t have problem with regard to following a jurist as it is an established fact. However, he said that the followers of School of companions have problems especially with regard to choosing a leader and how he should be obeyed. They don’t see leadership as position which can only be attained by having fulfilled certain known conditions.
On the concept of wilayatil Faqih Sheikh Zakzaky noted that Imam Khomeini(QS) was not the first to introduce it; it is however been established in the teaching of A’immah(AS). It was however Imam Khomeini the first the put the concept into practice in the modern time.
Before closing the lecture Sheikh Zakzaky answered some questions of the participants.

Sheikh Zakzaky (H) Speaks at the Closing Ceremony of the Martyrs’ Foundation Seminar

The 20th edition of the seminar for representatives of the Shuhada (martyrs’) foundation of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria came to an end on Sunday 8th April, 2012.
The revered leader of the Movement, Sayyeed Ibraheem Zakzaky (H) made the closing remarks. Before then, the National Coordinator of the Foundation, Malam Abdulhameed Bello made a discourse on ways to boost the capacity of the attendant representatives. Also, Malam Muhammad Turi spoke on the lessons to be derived from the Muassasatisshaheed in Lebanon. The venue was the Fudiyya Islamic Center, Danmagaji, Zaria.
In his remarks, Sayyeed Zakzaky noted that although martyrdom (shahadah) is a favour of Allah upon selected members of the Movement, it is part of things brought by the circumstances for which the burden attached to it is not planned. Despite the imposed poverty on the Nigerian populace, brothers have the zeal of sacrifice. So a lot is being done with meager resources.
Sayyeed (H) then went on to dwell on the virtues of Martyrdom. He referred to the two verses: “And do not speak of those who are slain in Allah's way as dead; nay, (they are) alive, but you do not perceive”. [Q2.154]. “And reckon not those who are killed in Allah's way as dead; nay, they are alive (and) are provided sustenance from their Lord.” [Q3.169].In the first case we are commanded NOT to SAY that martyrs are dead. In the second case we are commanded NOT to cast any doubt in our minds that martyrs are but living.
It is therefore imperative for us to take care of the rights of martyrs as we could for the living ones. Part of martyr’s right is taking care of the family he left behind. This includes proper sponsorship of the education of his children to the highest possible level. Another right of the Shaheed, observed Sayyeed (H) is the regular visit to his grave. Malam stated that in other parts of the Muslim World, graves are unique, safeguarded and beautified. Unfortunately in our society the opposite is the case. This attitude may not be unconnected to the traditional jahili beliefs of pre Islamic times in the Hausa land.
The advent of myopic Wahhabi doctrine, which vehemently opposes erection of structures in graveyards, has contributed to the practice, more especially in Saudi Kingdom, of prohibiting or even demolishing such structures. The irony of the matter is that they cling to this stand based on one Hadith supposedly reported by Ali bin Abi Talib (AS). What they fail to comprehend is that, Imam Ali (AS) was the fourth ‘Caliph’ and did not demolish such structures erected in the graves of believers at Baghdad and other places. May be they are more versed and understanding of the Hadith than the Imam who once commanded the affairs of the Muslim World!
In his concluding remarks, Shaykh (H) reiterated that brothers and sisters should try to uplift the status of the graveyards of the Martyrs of the Movement. This would open up for the societal reorientation towards graves of Muslims generally. He noted that the society always look and emulate members of the Islamic Movement because they know, quite right, that brothers always conduct their actions based on authentic sources and facts.
